Love changes an abandoned child

Hannah was born with a rare genetic disorder that even her own mother did not want her.

It is hard to imagine the impact that this could have caused her psychologically.

With her adopted mother, the love she receives has nurtured and filled up the gaps of her life.

The videoclip below shows the transformation of Hannah from young to 19 years old.

We can certainly agree that we can see her confidence as she dolls herself with make-up and putting on attractive clothing.

The truth is there are normal ones who may not even dare to face a camera like what she did.

Hard To Stay Still For Kids

Getting kids to stay still can be really hard.

Some kids were being challenged to stay still to have a chance to win a prize in the videoclip below.

Video Source

The whole game in staying still can really kill these kids as you can see from the videoclip above.

With all the intentional distractions, it was hard for these kids to stay still.

It was a meaningful and fun experiment that was able to tell us that kids need to be engaged and it would be hard to keep kids focused on just one task.

Hands-on activity would be great since kids need to move and the videoclip had given great evidence for the need of active activities.

Back To The Board

Students can play the game ‘Back To The Board’ to review words that they have learnt.

Students would be grouped into two teams with two students taking turns from each team to guess the word written by teacher on the whiteboard.

By watching the videoclip below, you would be able to understand the game better. It is a bit like charades but using words to describe the word given without using the actual word.

Video Source

We can definitely see the excitement in the students. It is a good way to break from the routine boring revision and get students excited about learning.

Don’t Smoke

Two kids went around and pretended to have the intention to smoke.

They went around asking for a lighter from smokers.

All the smokers refused to light the cigarette for them and they even told them the harm of smoking.

Video Source

After the smokers shared their knowledge about the harm of smoking, the kids passed them a note about their worry for the kid’s health in smoking so they should also worry about their own health risk in smoking.

Addiction is something hard to kick off once started and we want our kids to stay far away from smoking.

I have recently found out two of my 12-year-old students have been smoking outside the school with older teenagers.

One of them brought two sticks of cigarettes as he wanted to pass them to another classmate that he knew he was a smoker too.

At the age of twelve, they are already smoking. As parents and teachers, we want to lead them to quit smoking and live a healthy lifestyle.

The truth is smoking may just be a way they find relieved from their stressful broken families.

We need to help them to find new ways to channel their frustration and anger of life in the right way and direction.

We may not always be successful in helping every child but we should never give up on anyone of them.

Changes Of School Systems

Many current education systems around the world are based on a one size fits all model.

Students are trained in batches in the exact same way at different levels without modification.

Most of them would require to listen and learn from the knowledge being delivered by their expert teachers.

Video Source

The videoclip above illustrated the problem in the old school system that resulted in students lacking in skills and adaptability to cope with the ever-changing world.

They need to innovate and constantly find solution to new problem as well as learn new skill to stay competitive and current.

They cannot cage themselves in stagnant knowledge without moving forward even after leaving their final stage of education.

The below is what many schools around the world would like to evolve into to cope with the 21st century demands for our future generation.

Education is changing and older teachers would need to learn to teach differently.

Each teacher must have the growth mindset to change according to the season of needs by the world economical demands to equip our students with the ability to handle and cope with their future job demands.

Walk A Different Path Through Prison Education

Education can make a major impact to many who may have given up education in early years.

Many of these youths may have gone onto the wrong pathway and ended up in prison.

With all hopes gone, prison education provides the hope for a different future when they get out of prison.

Getting a degree before leaving the prison and having a decent job can change the once offender to become a useful citizen that he may never have thought he is capable of.

Video Source

Less than 1% of those who graduated from Hudson Link for higher education in prison would return to prison.

That is a good indication of how education has changed these prisoners who have received not just education but a chance to change their lives.

Below is another nice video about how Green Hill School makes a difference in the lives of youths who have walked the wrong pathway and changed them.

As current educators and parents, we must ensure to educate the best we can for those that cross our pathway as education is indeed one of the greatest change agents.

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival Legend Told by A Little Girl

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is on 13 September 2019 this year.

I decided to do a short post about it.

I found a short videoclip about Mid-Autumn Festival done by two little girls from Singapore.

They must have supportive parents who have assisted them to put up videoclips on youtube.

Video Source

It is amazing to see such confidence while being filmed and there are already over 69k viewers at the point of my post.

Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is celebrated all around the world now.

One of the most common snack being eaten for this festival is mooncake.

I rarely eat it as it is very sweet but there are lots of different flavours nowadays.

After listening to the story-telling, I am quite sure you have a little idea about the legend of Mid-Autumn Festival.

I hope you have enjoyed this short post.

Asian Funny Teachers

There are many types of teachers.

We may like some but we may hate some.

Below is a funny videoclip of different types of teachers being acted out.

Video Source

I do not believe there are many such extreme teachers like the ones in the videoclip but some may still exist in real life.

Regardless of the teachers we may face, the experienced teachers should guide these teachers to ensure students are properly nurtured and not ruined so that they can become useful citizens for the future.

Our children and students are the future of our nation. They are the future builders of our nation when they step out of education system as working adults.

Are Teachers Too Lenient These Days?

Students desire to have nice teachers.

Being too lenient can lead to lack of discipline.

Imagine all teachers are like the ones in the videoclip below.

Video Source

The new generation of youth desire freedom and respect but they often do not respect adults and teachers.

We need to put in effort to win their hearts over to us but giving in to everything can lead to them stepping out of their boundaries.

It is probably good to give and take. We must set the ground rules before releasing them with some freedom.

Both extremes can be bad so we need to find the middle ground for this generation of kids.

There is really no right or wrong but my personal perspective and you have the right to your own perspective too.

Too Quick to Judge

I just watched a meaningful videoclip that a man made a good comment about a drawing by a lovely lady.

He felt ignored and he misjudged that lady for treating him as someone who was trying to woo her.

Video Source

He found out later that the lady was deaf after she left a note for him.

We are guilty of judging without finding the facts of things.

There may often be hidden truth even for terrible behaviours of our kids and students.

I have couple of kids in my class who behave badly but the main reason is they hate their lives especially many of their parents are in prison.

They live their lives in anger especially against adults.

Judging too quickly before even helping would be a terrible thing to do for adults and teachers.

We must find out what is the hidden truth to make the right judgement and decision in our lives.
